As many of you know, Britt suffers from a very rare condition called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). This condition has always been very difficult to diagnose, and for us it took nine years. Too many needle pokes to count, too many eegs and hospital visits. Over the years, our group of medical professionals and research specialists have worked tirelessly to help find a cure. Through awareness and fundraising efforts, we've come a long way, but we're still not done, and until we have more anwers, more treatment options, and utlitmately, a CURE, we need to keep going.
So now let me tell you about our beautiful girl Britt...this girl's strength is just hard to put into words. Despite her condition, she has a smile and a spirit that is just contagous! She has a love of ALL things Disney and Broadway, and truly is your "phone a friend" for any trivia question about any show, movie or character. She loves to sing, and takes voice lessons. Her love of Broadway has led her to a volunteering position at a local theater. Halloween is her favorite holiday, and she hasn't missed one opportunity to dress up! We love you so much Britt and will NEVER stop fighting for a cure <3
The Race to END AHC is on! For over 25 years the AHC Foundation has been in the race to treat or cure AHC for all our AHC kids. It has been a long race, and the foundation has covered much ground by taking many steps toward that goal.
Through research, education and family support, we have ONE MISSION: END AHC
Through these three pillars of our mission, the AHC Foundation works to provide the community support and hope as we all move through this journey. Funding RESEARCH from small studies to gene discovery, to collaboration on landmark gene therapy that holds much potential; providing EDUCATIONAL resources to families through support groups, introductions to physicians, and our website; SUPPORTING FAMILIES through our support group, biennial family meetings, and availability of volunteers for crisis; are all ways the AHC Foundation works to END AHC.
